Behind SemperCon’s Success

Prologue

“At the lowest level of computer hardware is the semiconductor. It’s the foundation of all electronics,” says Rick O’Brien, President of SemperCon. “Knowing how a phone works helps you understand how an app works.”

With the goal of working with semiconductors and electronics, O’Brien became an electrical engineer. He gravitated to sales, helping customers design innovative new products and eventually ran the Asia Pacific area for Dallas Semiconductor. 

Then, O’Brien’s penchant for innovation drove him to become a serial technology entrepreneur. After his first venture, creating a digital recording device, he developed apps to support it. Subsequently, he launched one of the first mobile app companies. Since then, O’Brien has always drawn on his unique understanding of both software and hardware to exploit their synergies. 

The SemperCon Story

In his entrepreneurial journey, O’Brien experienced technology cycles first-hand. To get off the ground, companies scramble to hire engineers who can develop an app, but once it’s released, the need for technical manpower often declines. Employers don’t like the hassle and stress of hiring and laying off developers based on development cycles. On the other hand, a company that tries to stay afloat with excessive overhead risks hitting rock bottom.

Thus, O’Brien’s flash of inspiration that gave birth to SemperCon was to offer businesses easy, flexible access to expert app developers.

SemperCon is a Philadelphia area application development company that provides a technical team companies can rely on to create and upgrade web, mobile and IoT apps. We work with a range of companies from startups to global organizations, such as InterDigital and Somfy.

The backbone of SemperCon’s success is our rigorous process. We avoid false starts and wasted efforts by turning fuzzy concepts into high-definition specifications. Also, we help you strip away excess features so you can introduce minimum viable products (MVPs) in two months or less. You can add to them to create rich apps later.

Over the last decade, as our clients have grown, so has SemperCon. For instance, our first client has been working with us since we opened for business. They have expanded from a two-person startup to a mid-sized, high-growth company. We’d love to have you grow with us, too.
